Halo entered into the fray with their G6 starter Kit that was simple, elegant and easy to use for first timers. G6 was successful and since then halo has decided to make something that’s a bit more powerful, yet still simplistic and elegant. Thus Halo Triton came to take its form.
Halo Triton comes in the same box as the Halo G6, which is a good thing because it one of the sturdiest and sexiest spring locked cases around. These cases also have specialized compartments for each of the component of the Halo Triton so everything falls in to place quite nicely. The Halo Triton Kit includes 2x Batteries, 2x Tanks, 1x Instruction book, Wall charger and USB charger and a Cone cover.
One of the greatest things about the Halo Triton kit is simple instructions booklet. Most vaporizers have instruction that can be a bit hazy for the first time user, but this is not the case when it comes to Halo Triton Kit. The wording is simple enough for even a new user to easily assemble and get to the best part about vaporizers quickly, that is Vaping.
The batteries included comes in two different sizes namely 400 mAh and 650 mAh. Halo also offers the users to pick out the colors of the batteries which can be used to customize the appearance of the device itself. The batteries can either be manually controlled for greater freedom to customize the experience or they can be completely automatic for easier vaping.
The Halo Triton builds upon the already successful G6 kit and provides with great vapor clouds. The Flavors and the throat hits are definitely improved and pack quite a punch compared to size of the device itself. The Triton is still one of the most compact and portable vaporizers around which makes it quite handy. The Triton is also fairly easy to use and is targeted towards vapers just entering the community.
The clear instructions and the easy use of the device ensure that any new vapers can simply obtain the device and enjoy a hassle free Vaping experience.
Although it might seem that the Halo Triton is oriented towards new vapers, it does not mean that any experienced vapers will find anything wrong with the device. If prefer a slick looking device that is hassle free to operate, is compact and provides a good vaping experience, Halo Triton would be the Vaporizer of the choice for you.
Halo Cigs seemed uninterested in making a decision to create more advanced electronic cigarettes for a long time. They moved forward from their G6 cigalike to offer a new Triton eGo: new a few years ago, that is.
Now that device is among the aging has-beens of the e cig universe. It appeared that Halo was never going to take any further steps forward, which was fine for fans.
Halo still created a great product and they didn’t have to join the likes of South Beach Smoke and Vaporfi, building numerous devices.
Then they surprised us all: Halo is the proud creator of two new systems. They recently introduced the Tracer and the Reactor. Today we will be talking about the Halo Cigs Tracer vaporizer.
No More E Cigs
We could call the Tracer an e cig but that might give readers a false first impression and belittle what this machine really is.
An e cig is smaller and weaker than the 2600-mAh Tracer APV, a device, made from 304 stainless steel. The Tracer is smart, modern, non-corrosive, and clean. The Tracer’s 2600-mAh battery could last you a day or a weekend depending on how much you vape.
The design is similar to that of a Rocket at Vaporfi or an eGo One. This is a bolt-style device: a heavy-looking cylinder, at least in pictures. It is often a surprise that these larger e cigs are so small. The battery is a one-button device without a screen or extra elements; very simple to operate. It comes in black or silver.
Tracer Starter Kit at Halo Cigs
A starter kit for this product is available in one configuration and costs $59.99 as opposed to $89.99 for a Rocket. You also receive free e juice from Halo and that’s not something they are handing out with starter kits at Vaporfi, so this is a great deal. Choose from one of many V-Type High-vegetable glycerin 30-ml e juices like Black Calico, Tribeca, or Kringles Curse (0 to 12 mg of nicotine per/ml).
A Tracer bundle comes with a tank as well. This tank holds up to 3.5 ml of e liquid and is made from a mixture of stainless steel and borosilicate glass. Airflow adjustment is made possible by a valve in the bottom cap so you can change how much resistance there is when you draw. Resistance affects cloud density and temperature as well. A sub-ohm DC head (dual coil) lets you use viscous e juice and blow major vapor rings.
Borosilicate glass and 304 stainless steel are expensive components but necessary to maintain a high level of purity and cleanliness. Nothing will interfere with the flavor of your vapor.
Buy Individual Parts
A tank for the Tracer vaporizer is priced $24.99 on its own and a battery costs $29.99 Put that together and you would spend $53.98 just to purchase these two pieces. Add e juice and chargers and your outlay would be a lot more than the $60 price tag listed above for a bundle, demonstrating one reason why starter kits are popular.
Five-packs of replaceable coils cost $13.50. The USB cable is $3.99. Next add $7.99 for an AC adapter. Overall, this is an affordable system to run and replacement costs aren’t bad. Each 7-ml bottle of ordinary e juice costs $5.99 and there are the V-Type ones costing a little more. Halo made a classy move by adding a bottle to their starter kit as a default. There’s just one kit too: that makes the selection process simpler.
Halo Cigs Summary
Have some patience with Halo Cigs. As a result of recent changes, their website is going through teething pains. Pages load slowly and there are some problems finding details about certain things. They will get their act together; Halo always does right by their customers, prospective and current.

An atomizer known as an RDA or dripping atomizer is designed for use with thick juices which are dripped onto the atomizer deck a little at a time. You don’t fill a tank and keep puffing until the liquid runs out. RDA liquids are known to be generally thick owing to their high percentage of vegetable glycerin(high VG).
They are perfect for use with sub ohm mods like the SMOK Alien or VaporShark DNA. Tank atomizers with sub-ohm capacity were also designed for this purpose. How do you spot a good dripping or cloud chasing e-juice from the hundreds of available labels?
Top RDA Juices
Everyone’s list is a little bit different from everyone else’s but it’s likely your top 10 would not include liquids made by mini cig companies (except maybe Halo Purity or Apollo), cheap single-flavor blends from your e cig vendor, or Chinese juice.
Overall, you can expect a gourmet liquid to be ideal for dripping and any juice which is mostly sweet could be a good fit for this purpose too.
Expect a lot of e-juices for dripping to contain cream, custard, or baked goods in the profile, and even alcohol flavors too. VG carries the sweetness of a flavor better than PG but isn’t as great for getting that hit at the back of your throat which is associated with tobacco styles and propylene glycol.
Gourmet finds include Space Jam, Cosmic Fog, Gemini, Alice in Vapeland, and Five Pawns. There are loads of others too: Villain Vapors, Ruckus, and Kind E-Juice are just a few other options out of dozens.
Best E Juice For Dripping and Cloud Chasing
Firebrand’s regular line has been given quite a boost by a selection of eight high-VG flavors of which one, surprisingly, are tobacco varieties. We see this too rarely in the gourmet side of the industry, so it’s great when someone embraces the traditional, comforting flavors of pipe tobacco et al. You will find tobacco in Crixus, a nutty style of e juice.
Daredevil is a lot like Carnage by ANML, another great dripping juice. Their other flavor is Looper: similar to a fruity breakfast cereal. Both of them feature carnivorous beasts on their labels and there is hope they will come up with something new in the near future.
At CRFT, they are only interested in high-quality ingredients and come up with unique mixtures like Trail Mix. This one really tastes like seeds, nuts, and fruit. Their Strawberry Blonde is another winner bringing to mind thoughts of creamy strawberry.
At Namber, they came up with the Epiclouds line developed specially for cloud chasers. Pick up strawberry candy (Strawberry Circus) or Doughnut Pounder (glazed donut). Try the unique Glacier Banana in which you will discover what happens when menthol and banana unite.
At The Standard, vapologists like to keep their clients in the dark. You don’t even know what you are getting with some flavors. It takes a few brave souls to try out juices and report their findings in reviews. Alternatively, you could wind up with one of the mystery types in your subscription box. If so, see this as an opportunity to venture into the unknown. As for Tater, that’s a chocolate style unlike anything your mini cig cartomizer refill could ever produce. Do you like Banana without menthol? Curious Jorge would be just the ticket.
Cream-based juices are meant to be thick on your palate as though you really are drinking cream. The skill required to create this impression is impressive and they have lots of skill over and over at Vaping Birdy. Try an Empress Penguin or an Emperor Penguin. The Emperor is straight-up condensed milk. His Empress, being sweeter and more feminine, adds strawberries to hers. Bald Eagle blends toffee, chocolate, and coffee into a rich, bold e liquid. Try Crème a la Vanille or, in English, vanilla cream.
Melon Boba, Sour Burma, and Baja Breeze are all fruity, but they do not lack anything when it comes to clouds. At Goodlife, they also create several tobacco e juices so the tobacco fan doesn’t have to give up his favorite flavor to enjoy clouds. He can enjoy the best of both worlds.
Here is one of the most widely acclaimed e juices in the country, but not one carried by the same huge list of vendors as, say, Five Pawns. A frustrating lack of local supply might mean you have not tried this vapor juice before, but Adirondack makes excellent fruity e liquid that is well worth saving for a special occasion (like launching or adding a new box mod to your collection).
Spotting Good Juice
Making clouds is something you can do with any device using any juice, but some are wispy and some are meteorological phenomena. It is always best to go with a juice that has a high level of vegetable glycerin so your clouds are sure to thicken up no matter what type of mod you use from eGo to 50W box.
Several companies supply dripping lines side-by-side with their regular e juices. VaporFi, for instance, has created their Artisan e juice for this purpose and to cater to a cloud-chasing audience. These clients would probably be using the Rebel II tube mod or Vox.
Charlie Noble’s Admiral’s Reserve was made for this purpose and some entire brands are devoted to the sub-ohm culture. The label will indicate that this is a dripping juice or perfect for RDAs. Velvet Vapors offers the choice: select natural, regular, or vegetable glycerin e liquids. Most of their flavors are available in any format.
A number of companies provide custom juice blending and the option to change your propylene glycol (PG)/vegetable glycerin (VG) base. Indicate if you want all PG, Max-VG, or a level in-between. Expect RDA e liquids to be bottled in glass, to be made in smaller batches than the usual stuff, and to cost a bit more than regular liquids. If you paid about $12 for 15 ml, that’s average.
From one vape store to another the definition of “starter kits” differs. At online cigalike shops such as Green Smoke, White Cloud, and South Beach Smoke these refer to kits for beginners; people who are literally just starting to vape. They might have barely given up cigarettes or still be smoking some of the time. At other stores these refer to kits which help a person get started with any sort of device, so they have all or at least some of the equipment required to operate and recharge a vaporizer at any level. Here are some configurations you could find.
This is the real newbie’s first set and it has to come with three things: a USB charger, a battery, and flavor cartridges. When you first start out, a starter set is also a guide to vaping, in a sense. You know that if stuff is in the box you are expected to use it somehow whereas later, when you know what you’re doing, some things go without saying.
Certain people would also say that a beginners’ kit should come with a second battery and an AC adapter and that a real starter kit contains at least 5 cartridges. You don’t really get a feel for what vaping is like and how convenient it can be without the second battery which provides a chance to learn timing and preparation. When your 3- or 4-hour battery runs out, you realize how much you need battery number 2.
You should probably go for a kit with at least 5 (but preferably 10) cartridges since they are used up so quickly. Some bundles also contain a case, a portable charging device, and a lanyard; a car charging adapter, perhaps a USB e cig, or maybe a disposable electronic cigarette. Couples’ kits simply double all of the basic equipment so two people can learn to vape side-by-side.
Prices for all of this gear vary so widely and customer preferences are so different it is hard to nail down the best price. V2 Cigs provides numerous options including a set that comes with refillable cartridges or tanks plus e juice. Halo provides one of the best value kits for their G6 and a lot of colors plus the option to select refillable cartridges, but juice is extra (though high quality and inexpensive). Smokeless Image probably sells the cheapest sets around. A few other brands of note include Vaporfi, Fin, 21st Century Smoke, and Vapor4Life.
An eGo cigarette goes beyond cigalikes to provide many hours of vaping per charge. Instead of recharging three or four times daily, a person can probably manage to recharge just once around midday with a 650-mAh eGo battery.
You might get away with just one battery and a single tank in this case as long as recharging can be done while you continue to vape, but that’s not always the case. You could revert to your cigalike while recharging an eGo. Many people do. There are also 1100-mAh sets plus several containing variable voltage e cigs and lots of color choices.
Top-value eGo starter kits are packaged in a zipper case with a syringe or dripper bottle for easily refilling the clearomizer also included. Usually, if there are two batteries, two clearomizers are also in this package plus a USB charging cable. The addition of a bottle of e juice sweetens the deal. Halo’s Triton is a good example. The Kanger EVOD and Joyetech eGo are two more. Vaporfi supplies the Pro series as their eGo offering.
Clearomizers could be disposable or come with replaceable atomizer heads. They have built-in or removable drip tips and are usually made from polycarbonate rather than glass. Their single coil configuration is best used with low-viscosity e juice (high-propylene glycol) and flavors that don’t crack or cloud tanks such as low-acid fruit flavors, some desserts, tobacco, and light menthol.
While vapers might turn to an eGo as their first electronic cigarette in preference to the dainty cigalike, they are unlikely to choose an Advanced Personal Vaporizer (APV) as their first step. In spite of that fact, vape shops and manufacturers will still refer to their advanced “starter kits” in order to indicate that you are not only buying a battery; you buy a whole package here which is why the price is higher.
In this kit you do not need a second battery since the 1100-, 1300-, or 2200-mAh battery will remain charged for an entire day if you remember to replenish it overnight. The battery should be bundled with a clear or glass tank capable of low but not sub-ohm resistance plus some extra atomizer heads, a USB cable, maybe a case, and possibly some e juice for good measure.
Really Advanced Starter Kits
Often these are referred to as “mini kits” comprised of the smallest versions of certain hardware. Examples are the Kanger Subox Mini Kit with their small tank. These kits contain a vaporizer base and battery, if that is not already built in, plus a cable and a tank. A few kits are comprised of all-in-one vaporizers (battery base and tank). Many other kits are just the vaporizer plus a battery and a USB cable without a tank. At this level, e juice is rarely included although some shops encourage vendors to customize their own kits to include adapters, extra tanks, spare parts, and e liquid.
Starter Kit Savings
Another reason people buy starter kits, besides convenience, is that they usually save money. Whether you just started, have picked up your first eGo, are on to adjustable airflow tanks, or are into sub-ohm cloud chasing mods, a kit costs less than individual parts bought all at once or over time. Not only is shipping added to small orders in most cases (you get free shipping at a threshold of $50 to $100) but a discount is applied to bundles automatically.
Many of the top names in electronic cigarettes made some minor changes to their pricing or added some new equipment, but their cigalikes didn’t really change in 2015. The biggest news in this part of the industry is perhaps that Volcano E Cigs stopped promoting the Magma in favor of more advanced devices, although it is still available as a starter kit.
Otherwise, most e cig companies have been doing the same things in their cigalike departments as they did the previous year. There isn’t much to change except to freshen design and add new flavors. Here is the top five plus some advice on how to choose a cigalike.
First Things First
When you approach the topic of best cigalikes, it’s easy to become overwhelmed: there are just so many brands of cigalikes. Many of them look the same and technically there is little or no difference. Aesthetically, there are various colors of tips including blackout tips and crystal tips. These don’t say anything about how well an e cig operates. Ignore the glitz and gimmicks.
Look instead to the number of hours an e cig will hold its charge. The average is around 2 ½ to 3 hours but a few standout models manage around 4 hours on a single charge. Remember, these are very tiny batteries and are not designed to last all day. The sole purpose of a cigalike is to transition smokers into the world of vaping by offering them a device that looks and feels much like a cigarette.
Of course flavor is always something to consider as well, especially if you are just trying out vaping and looking for something similar as an alternative to smoking.
Starter kits are sometimes good value but often loaded with gear you don’t need. Stick with a basic kit costing $50 or less.
Contents should include at least the following:
• 2 batteries
• a USB charger
• an AC adapter
• 5 cartridges
Anything extra is a bonus such as a carry case, more cartridges, or a car charging adapter. Although a new type of e cig hit the market last year — the Juul — I’ll stick with traditional types because it’s easier to compare apples to apples. Always buy brand new, brand name e cigs so you can be sure of their quality and that safety standards are being met.
The South Beach Smoke battery is probably this industry’s best. They lose points for pricing, however, since you have to buy packs of 15 cartridges at a time (as opposed to 5 in most instances) and these are overly expensive. Their starter kits could be cheaper too, although special deals and coupon codes help to mitigate this fact.
But that’s the same with almost every company, so once discounts are applied to every brand of e cig, South Beach Smoke will still be among the most expensive cigalikes. After South Beach Smoke introduced their High-Drain battery (a longer version of the cigarette-type device), it became clear that others would have to improve their game and many did.
This is one of the pioneers of the electronic cigarette industry, and they are well known for their e-cigs having a realistic experience compared to an actual tobacco cigarette. They have a very reasonably priced standard starter kit, pictured here, to get started with cigalikes.
Then if you want to get a more powerful device, they have some other great options. If you are thinking of trying electronic cigarettes, we highly recommend V2.
The G6 cigalike provides a sturdy and modern design plus excellent performance. Halo also carries one of the industry’s best US-made e liquids, comparable with gourmet brands. A lot of other companies use Chinese e juice and their ingredients aren’t up to USP standards.
Since you can buy refillable cartridges at Halo, it is possible to refill with any brand of e juice and still use a cigalike. Customers really appreciate the affordable bundle with its impressive packaging. Clients also love that they only have to pick a color since there is one standard starter set for each model sold at Halo.
This is the cheapest product on the market, and I don’t mean in terms of quality. Many consumers really love this cigalike.
Don’t let the low price worry you. Smokeless Image simply did what the other brands should have also done: dropped their prices way lower when the market was flooded with options.
One such firm is a sister company to South Beach Smoke. Eversmoke also puts out a fine product. Selection and pricing are generally similar in this department although South Beach Smoke now carries 4 vaporizers and a line of e liquids whereas Eversmoke sticks to cigalikes.
Build quality is much the same. South Beach Smoke produces 16 flavors of cigalikes, however, vs. the selection of 8 styles at Eversmoke and far fewer options overall. Both companies offer automatic and manual batteries and two sizes: standard and high-drain.
I give this company a top spot because they are among those who started this revolution in the United States. Green Smoke also initiated recycling options to help promote the environmentally friendly nature of vaping and that does the image of vaping a lot of good.
Green Smoke reviews have been consistently good when you take their product for what it is, not what came later. Forget about eGos and e liquid: Green Smoke has not caved-in to trends and pressure and still makes a fine product for new vapers with one goal: find an alternative to cigarettes without ditching the physical actions of smoking.
Their strong suit is fresh e juices, seven pre-filled flavors. Batteries are at the high-end of average for performance. They can be stylish too with the designer series named and crafted to make you think of major US cities.
In the past year or so, Green Smoke dropped their prices, those being the one thing experts could really hold against them, so now the cost of a starter kit is far more competitive than it was in early 2014.
